Venice
Culture - When you think about culture in
the city of Venice, Italy look no further than at
every face and at every building in the area. In every
small carving on every intricately architectural building
in this area Venice has culture seeping through every
inch of the city. As you make your way along the Grand
Canal and through the endless building that all resemble
Castles and Palaces you can feel the history pouring
from every brick. It is a cultural exhibit of craftsmanship
at its finest.
Through each and every museum you will see some of
the finest art in the world and as you make your way
among the people of Venice you will
see the character on their faces and in their eyes.
This city has so much in the way of culture you will
feel that you have become part Italian after your
stay, if you aren’t already. There is so much
to enjoy and see in the Venice way of life that you
will wish to stay among its people, their buildings.
As you take a Gondola Ride, you can
feel years of history and culture drifting by; as
these masters of the canal carry on the tradition
of a thousand years.
Venetian glass is famous the world over and is particularly
associated with the Venetian Culture.
Lace too has been made here down through the ages.
The Carnival of Venice takes place
in January/Febuary every year. With masked balls and
canal parades this is a traditional spectacle and
stunning. In the Piazzas all over Venice, on the canals,
on every street, parties and gaiety explode to celebrate
this festival. Everyone wears masks and traditional
costumes of every type. It is an opportunity to indulge
in your fantasies. Originally it took place from Christmas
to Ash Wednesday and included every imaginable excess.
The traditional costume was the big black cloak,
black hood and white face mask – you were totally
anonymous. In the last twenty years or so the Venice
Carnival has gained greatly in popularity
and many tourists come to attend the balls, parades,
banquets, dancing etc. The private balls are sumptious
and can cost up to 500 euro a head.
