Venice
Museums – If you love the arts and
music then you will love the museums that Venice,
Italy is so well known for. The dominance of Venice
for so long between the 13th and 19th Centuries means
that the city now has a wealth of treasure of great
antiquity. We list out a few here but believe me there
are many more.
The Venice Museum of Modern Art
and the Museum of Oriental Art, both have an extensive
collection of paintings. You could spend hours in
this building and see only some of the marvellous
paintings of these most talented artists that are
represented. You will also wish to see the Peggy Guggenheim
Museum and the Correr Museum for even more unrivalled
art paintings.

At the Peggy Guggenheim Museum in Dorsodura you will
find a stunning collection of modern art. Peggy Guggenheim,
the American heiress, lived in Venice in this building.
She brought her extensive collection of sculptures
and paintings to her house. When she died in 1979
her Foundation developed the Museum and it is now
one of the leading collections of Modern Art in the
world. Famous modern painters and sculptors such as
Picasso, Chagall, Mondrian, Kandinski, Dali, and many
more are represented here. This Gallery is next door
to Accademia (see below)
Accademia Gallery
Campo della Carita
Accademia
041-522-2247
This is the Art Gallery for Venetian Art – and
one of the most visited attractions in Venice. There
are paintings from the 14th to the 19th century. It
is a collection of Venetian art. For those not heavily
into Art, it is well displayed in a number of rooms
with the paintings in chronilogical order. Accademia
is devoted to Venetian paintings. With paintings by
Venetian painters such as Titian, Tintoetto (some
of his amazing St Mark paintings) and among them a
Canaletto (one of only three in Venice – the
rest were sold abroad by his patron), this is a treat
not to be missed. Almost next door is the Guggenheim
gallery.
The Museum of Modern Art and Museum of Oriental
Art
Santa Croce
This collection of beautiful paintings at the Museum
of Modern Art and Museum of Oriental Art are in Santa
Croce. They are in a lovely baroque building called
Ca’ Pesaro. The Modern Art collection has paintings
and scultures by Matisse, Rodin, Marc Chagall, Klee
etc. There is also a Museum of Oriental Art with displays
from China and Japan.
